The periodic meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency began today in Vienna, and it is expected that voting on this proposal will take place in the coming days.
The previous time the Board of Governors referred Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council was in 2005. After that, the Security Council, in several resolutions, approved sanctions against Iran.
A senior European diplomat told BBC Persian that he is confident the draft resolution to refer Iran’s nuclear case to the Security Council will be approved at this week’s Board of Governors meeting; “The only question is how many votes there will be.”
Watch the report by Behrang Tajdīn, a BBC Persian correspondent, from the venue of this meeting.
