On the fourth anniversary of the government killing of Jina Mahsa Amini, Amnesty International announced in a detailed report on its crackdown on the “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising that the Islamic Republic committed “crimes against humanity” during these protests.

The 1,149-page report, titled “Architects of Crime: The State Apparatus Organizing Crimes Against Humanity in Iran’s ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ Uprising in 2022,” was published on Wednesday, 25 Shahrivar, and Amnesty International unveiled it at a press conference in London.

According to the organization’s press release, Islamic Republic officials, as “orderers of killings,” in order to suppress this uprising for political, gender-based, ethnic, and religious reasons, carried out “murder, torture, enforced disappearance, imprisonment, sexual violence, and harassment and abuse.”

Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said that the extensive evidence gathered in this report “leaves no room for doubt” that Islamic Republic officials committed crimes against humanity during the 2022 protests.
