Lionel Messi has Brazilian roots
✏ This is the conclusion reached by the historian Fiorentino Santini, who has published the results of his three-year research.
In 1899, the fourth grandfather of Leo—Leonardo Raniero Coscitini—married and, together with his wife and their two children, moved to Brazil, where the family changed its surname and Raniero began working as a farmer. Shortly after, two more children were added to the family, and one of them, Federico Coscitini, is officially recognized as Messi’s grandfather. In 1905, the entire family moved to Rosario, Argentina, where 82 years later, Lionel Andrés Messi Coscitini was born.
