Leader of Germany’s AFD party, Alice Weidel, on Russia and Ukraine:
The Alternative for Germany party has a very clear position: we have always been open to diplomatic channels.
And we have always criticized the fact that, especially when talking about Ukraine, we need an open channel with Russia in order to reach an understanding and achieve a peaceful solution.
We have also always said that we need good relations not only with Russia, but above all with the United States.
Now we can see that the United States is sending its representatives to Moscow and conducting initial talks between Moscow and Kyiv.
This could actually be a role for Germany and for a German federal government. In recent decades, acting as a neutral mediator has been a common practice for us, and that role suits us much better than being war-mongering speakers today.
