India’s foreign ministry condemned the attack on the commercial vessel “GFAFS Galaxy” near the coast of Oman.
The ministry said 11 Indian nationals were aboard the ship, with 10 rescued and one still missing.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Indian government said its embassy in Oman is closely monitoring developments and is in contact with Omani officials to address the situation of the ship’s crew.
After being hit, the “GFAFS Galaxy” suffered a fire and damage in the engine room, and its crew abandoned the vessel. The U.S. Central Command has identified the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as responsible for the attack.
The IRGC, in a statement, said the reason for the attack on this vessel was to turn off the tracker and attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
