🔶 Davanban: Several lawyers in Fars Province are subjected to attacks each week
Davanban, a legal counseling and training center for activists, reports on a warning by the head of the commission supporting lawyers of the Bar Association of Fars about the lack of effective criminal protection for lawyers.
According to Mustafa Ansari, the existing laws against insults, threats, and violence that lawyers face due to carrying out their professional duties do not provide sufficient deterrence.
As he said: “While insults directed at certain employees and officials while performing their duties face specific criminal penalties, verbal attacks against a lawyer are usually considered under general insult regulations. This difference deprives lawyers, even when defending a client, of appropriate criminal protection.”
Davanban, referring to the case of Ali Solimani, a lawyer in Fars Province who was killed in October 1403—outside the courthouse of Jowim—by eight bullets fired by the opposing party, writes that the scope of the issue is not limited to insults and threats. Cases of beating and injury, attacks with a cold weapon, and even the killing of lawyers have also been reported.
