🖊 Daniel Bush, BBC Washington The nuclear deal of the Trump administration with Saudi Arabia has changed the United States’ multi-year approach toward one of its most important allies in the Middle East.

Former U.S. presidents have always insisted that Saudi Arabia, in exchange for receiving American nuclear technology for non-military energy production, normalize its relations with Israel.

According to reports about the terms of this deal, Donald Trump, the U.S. president, met Saudi Arabia’s demands without receiving any concession in Israel’s favor; an action that faced opposition from critics who warned that such an agreement could lead to the beginning of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

On Thursday, Trump wrote on social media that this nuclear agreement is conditional on Saudi Arabia’s joining the “Abraham Accords”—a package of agreements that, during his first term in office, led to the normalization of Israel’s relations with several Gulf Arab countries.
