The Walla News website reported that Israeli officials had estimated that a sweeping U.S. attack on Iran—which Donald Trump, the U.S. president, had said he was considering—would begin from Friday night until early Saturday, but by the end of Friday they concluded that Trump had, for now, paused the attack and given Tehran another opportunity.

According to the report, behind the scenes, Qatar and Oman exerted significant pressure on the Islamic Republic to soften its positions and prevent what appeared to be a large-scale and almost certain U.S. operation.

The report added that Israeli officials still believe that understanding between Tehran and Washington has effectively collapsed, and the chance of reaching a permanent agreement that would force the Iranian government to accept U.S. demands is close to zero.

Based on the report, from Israel’s perspective, the new window Trump has given to Tehran would only allow the Islamic Republic to buy time for a short period and would not create any change in Israel’s overall assessment.
