🔻U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in response to a claim by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps about the “seizure” of one of its autonomous submarines in the Strait of Hormuz, has responded to the BBC.
USS J1 Team Hawkins, a spokesperson for CENTCOM, said in a statement: “A drone belonging to U.S. forces suffered a technical malfunction more than a day ago. The drone was conducting patrols in regional waters in support of ongoing operations.”
He also said: “This was an older model drone that gathered neither sensitive information nor carried radar equipment or classified sensors. U.S. operations in the waters of the region continue.”
Fars News Agency, close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, announced hours earlier that it had “captured” an American smart submarine.
According to Fars, this is among the “most modern smart and unmanned submarines” of the U.S. Army.
Fars also said it had “lured the drone into a trap at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.”
