U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces have begun a new round of attacks against Iran starting at 5 p.m. Eastern time. CENTCOM said the targets of these attacks are “continuing to weaken Iran’s ability to attack non-military vessels and commercial ships that freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.” CENTCOM also said these attacks were carried out on the orders of the U.S. commander-in-chief, with the aim of holding the Islamic Republic’s forces accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
