Mike Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, by reposting a message from Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, announced that Washington’s economic pressure on the Islamic Republic will continue under the name “Economic Anger Operation,” saying it is aimed at “isolating the hidden leader of the Islamic Republic and preserving his frozen assets for the Iranian people.”
He added that this campaign is being pursued with the backing of the return of UN sanctions within the framework of the “snapback mechanism.”
On the evening of Friday, 19 Tir (10 July), Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, wrote in a post on the X platform that the Treasury Department, using all of its tools, wants to keep Mojtaba Khamenei and other senior officials of the government away from the global financial system. Bessent emphasized that the United States intends to preserve the assets for the Iranian people.
The U.S. Treasury Secretary also said that, following the resumption of Iran’s attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned an Iranian financial intermediary who played a role in carrying out broad financial transactions.
