The U.S. Army once again “targeted” Iranian oil tankers

🔸 Iranian media reported on the evening of Tuesday, September 17 (Shahrivar 17), that the sound of several explosions was heard from the sea near the islands of Kharg and Jask.

🔸 Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), says that an Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island was targeted by “American missiles,” and that its crew is currently leaving the vessel.

🔸 Meanwhile, the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post also said, citing American officials, that CENTCOM forces are currently attacking Iranian oil tankers.

🔸 Fox News also, citing an American official, confirmed an attack on targets including Iranian oil tankers.

🔸 The American official told Fox that “the Tuesday attacks were part of a broader effort to put economic pressure on Iran, and U.S. forces intended to sink these tankers or completely disable them.

🔸 However, CENTCOM’s account on X has not yet published any news about this.

🔸 At the same time as the initial reports of explosions being heard were released, the IRGC warned that if Iranian oil tankers were targeted, it would carry out “heavy attacks” against U.S. bases.

🔸 The IRGC Navy then warned “all tanker crews in the vicinity of the Kuwaiti and Bahraini docks” to “evacuate,” and said it would target them.

🔸 During Tuesday, Shahrivar 17, the Islamic Republic Army and the IRGC had reported that they had targeted two American drones.

🔸 Shortly after that, the IRGC claimed it had trapped an American unmanned submarine.

🔸 Hours later, an American official, without referring to details, confirmed the “disabling” of the submarine; but did not mention the possibility of it being taken down by Iran.

🔸 This is not the first time that U.S. forces have attacked Iranian tankers.

🔸 Early on Sunday morning, CENTCOM released a video of the “M/T Kilo” tanker showing that after the Saturday attack by U.S. forces, the vessel capsized and then sank. In the explanation of the U.S. Central Command headquarters in the Middle East, it was stated that the tanker sank in the Sea of Oman.
