The Instagram page of Samaneh Attaran, the mother of the late Kayavash Mirghasemi, was taken offline following pressures exerted by security institutions of the Islamic Republic, and access to it was forcibly taken over by these institutions. All previous posts on this page were deleted, and only one post has been placed there at the order of judicial officials.
This action comes as part of a widespread wave of pressure, summons, and crackdowns targeting families of those seeking justice. Previously, security institutions had also blocked the publication of Instagram posts by the families of victims, with the aim of silencing their voice as they sought accountability.
Last month, amid the continuation of these pressures, the mother and sister of Kayavash Mirghasemi were arrested at their home by security forces. Kayavash Mirghasemi, an 18-year-old student, was killed in Gorgan on the evening of 19 Dey after being shot directly in the heart by government forces. Security institutions are trying to prevent the dissemination of news and keep the memories of victims of government killings alive by imposing digital restrictions and detaining members of the families.
