The Romanian Ministry of Defense on Friday, 13 Shahrivar, published a video and said these images show the neutralization of an explosive device from a drone that was floating in the Black Sea. Based on the ministry’s statement, an explosive ordnance disposal team aboard a coast guard vessel went about five nautical miles east of the entrance to the Sulina branch to investigate a suspicious floating object. The object was neutralized safely on the spot.
Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey—three NATO members in the Black Sea—have so far neutralized more than 150 drifting mines along commercial routes, and in July they agreed to expand their joint mine-countermeasures force’s mission to include protection of critical infrastructure.
