Prince Reza Pahlavi met on Monday, 29 Tir, with a group of members of the Iranian queer community in Paris. According to a statement released by the office of Prince Reza Pahlavi, the meeting focused on the concerns and experiences of Iran’s rainbow community and reiterated the principle that all Iranian citizens are equal before the law.

At the meeting, representatives of the Iranian Queer organizations Simorgh, the Rainbow Lion and Sun Association of Iran, and a group of LGBTQ activists and artists living in different parts of the world presented their views on the discriminatory and violent conditions faced by LGBTQI individuals under the rule of the Islamic Republic and the needs of these citizens for the future Iran.

The participants at the meeting, among other matters, outlined the initial six demands of the rainbow community for “a normal life” in Iran, which are: 1. the right to live, study, and work in a safe environment 2. criminalization of queerphobia 3. the right to form a family 4. issuance of identification documents appropriate for transgender people 5. access to appropriate medical and healthcare services 6. education and increasing public awareness about gender-related issues.
