Pakistan is facing increasingly severe power shortages after it decided not to buy LNG (liquefied natural gas) to replace disrupted supply.

Based on a Bloomberg report quoting traders, Pakistan’s state-owned LNG company canceled its emergency tender for a cargo with delivery due by Shahrivar 17; because it received only one bid from BP at a price of $27 per million BTU.

That figure is close to three times the pre-war cash level.

According to traders, the Pakistani government found the offer too expensive and may re-run the tender process.
