🔻Kurdish forces: an alliance led by the United States shot down five drones over Erbil
Kurdish forces announced that alliance forces led by the United States on Friday shot down five drones over Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Previously, the French news agency reported that before air defense systems were activated, several drones had been spotted over Erbil. After that, sounds of several explosions were heard and smoke rose near the city’s airport, where the alliance forces led by the United States are based.
Since fighting in the area flared up again, drones that officials of the Kurdistan Region say are launched by Iran have repeatedly been intercepted over Erbil. The city is also home to one of the largest U.S. consular complexes in the region.
Kurdish anti-terrorism forces said on Friday: “Alliance forces between 9:32 and 9:45 a.m. shot down five drones carrying explosive materials over Erbil.”
These forces added that no one was killed in the attacks.
Since the start of the war in the Middle East on February 28 (9 Esfand 1404), the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has repeatedly been targeted by attacks from Iran and Iraqi armed groups aligned with Iran.
