Jérôme Bonafont, France’s ambassador to the United Nations and the current chair of the Security Council, told reporters that the people of Iran are victims of decisions that officials of the Islamic Republic have been making for years.
He added that the people of Iran are also victims of periods of widespread repression.
He continued that the Council, this month, will examine the Islamic Republic’s failure to comply with its nuclear commitments and the consequences arising from that.
Bonafont also stated that this discussion takes place in the context of a multifaceted reality. One aspect of this reality is the situation unfolding in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and especially the issue of freedom of navigation. Full freedom of navigation has not yet been established in the Strait of Hormuz, and this situation has very unfavorable consequences for international conditions.
