🔸Ismail Bagha’i, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, on Monday, 23 Shahrivar, at his weekly meeting with reporters, described Austria’s refusal to issue visas to Mohammad Islami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization, and his delegation in order to attend the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna as “absolutely unfounded,” and said that Austria’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran had been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to deliver Iran’s objection.
🔸Mohammad Islami and his delegation had, on Saturday, been forced to return to Tehran amid their trip to Vienna. Bloomberg, citing an American official, reported that Austria prevented his entry under pressure from the government of Donald Trump.
🔸The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that Austria’s reference to pressure or a request from the United States does not remove this country’s responsibility as host of an international organization. He accused Western countries of preventing representatives of Iran from attending to defend their positions after the issuance of a resolution against Iran.
