🔶 Increase in requests for refusal of military service in Germany

The number of requests for refusal of military service in Germany has increased significantly. According to the German “Editorial Network” news agency, citing a spokesperson for the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society Tasks (BAFzA), only in the first half of this year, 5,862 requests for refusal of service were submitted to this institution.

In total across 2025, 3,867 people in Germany had submitted requests for refusal of military service. In 2024, the figure was 2,998 people.

The report also states that in 2011, the year in which conscription in Germany was suspended, 4,348 requests for refusal of military service were recorded.

The increase in these requests appears to be related to the heightened security situation as well as the new military service law that entered into force on January 1.
