🔻As a result of a cargo plane from Amazon Air exiting the runway during landing at the Miami International Airport in Florida, at least five people were killed and five others were seriously injured.
The cargo plane is a Boeing 767-300 that took off from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and at around 2 p.m. on Sunday local time, it left the runway while landing. After hitting several vehicles on the airport grounds, it stopped with its nose on the ground.
In a statement, Amazon said it is working closely with authorities and the responsible agencies to determine the cause of the incident.
Following the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily suspended all flights at Miami Airport so that firefighting and rescue teams could be dispatched to the scene. The crash occurred on the eve of the U.S. Labor Day weekend, one of the busiest travel periods in the country.
Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of the Miami-Dade district, said at a press conference: “At least five people have lost their lives and five others have been injured.”
