The European stock market fell on Tuesday under pressure from losses at large banks, a surge in oil prices, and higher yields on global bonds.

The STOXX 600 index in Europe fell by four-tenths of a percent, while most of the major exchanges in the region also declined.

Bank shares were among the biggest drags, down by 1.3%.

Inflation concerns arising from intensifying tensions in the Middle East show no sign of easing and have reinforced expectations for interest rate hikes by central banks around the world.
