Destruction of the “Russian caravanserai” by the Sabzevar municipality;

Based on a report by media outlets inside Iran, the head of the Cultural Heritage Office in Sabzevar, after confirming images published of the destruction of the historic building known as the “Russian caravanserai” in this city, said: “In our view, the municipality’s violation in this decision is established, and we will pursue it through the judiciary.”

The architecture of this building belonged to the era of the first Pahlavi period. Because Soviet Union military forces were stationed there during the occupation of Iran, it was also known as the “Russian barracks.”

The head of Sabzevar’s cultural heritage office said: “Although this historical site had been introduced as a valuable structure, not only was no inquiry made from heritage, but the municipality also sent a demolition warning letter.”
