🔶 Denial of a New York Times report about Iraqi mediation
Iran has denied media reports that officials in this country had proposed a US ceasefire, which it said was allegedly presented by Iraq, rejected them, and instead blamed the Trump administration for the recent escalation of violence in the region.
Iranian officials accused Washington of “violating its commitments” set out in a memorandum of understanding, which, according to them, had laid out a roadmap for achieving longer-term peace. They also criticized a report published by the New York Times, which claimed that Tehran had rejected a temporary agreement, calling it a “misleading” report.
The Iraqi government also rejected the report.
In a statement in which Iraq’s official news agency (INA) cited the media office of the country’s prime minister, it said: “In connection with the report published by The New York Times on July 23, 2026, the Prime Minister’s media office emphasizes that the claims made in this report are baseless and have no connection to reality.”
