🔶 Britain officially designates the IRGC as a terrorist organization

Britain has added Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist organizations; an action that, according to the government, will significantly increase diplomatic tensions with Tehran.

The UK Home Office said on Monday that, after years of political disagreement over the issue, any support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—one of the main pillars of Iran’s armed forces—will be banned.

In terms of practical effects, the move is equivalent to placing an organization on a list of prohibited groups, although legally it is not exactly the same mechanism.

The government ministers also plan to declare the “Islamic Friends of Truth Movement,” which has been attributed responsibility for a series of attacks on Jewish targets in Britain, and the “Federation of Russian Volunteers Corps,” an international branch associated with Russia’s military intelligence service, as illegal.
