Explanations by Baqai regarding Iraqchi’s trip to Oman on Saturday
Ismail Baqai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
Talks between the foreign ministers of Iran and Oman, aimed at coordinating between the two coastal countries of the Strait of Hormuz on arrangements for traffic control and navigation in the strait, were held on Saturday in Muscat.
In these talks, in which the legal and technical delegations of the two countries also participated, discussions were held regarding ensuring the security and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal countries and the international law applicable, and also taking into account the provisions of paragraph 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that the setting of arrangements for the future traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz should be carried out through consultation between the two coastal countries and by considering developments over the past few months, in particular the war imposed by the United States–the Zionist regime and its security-related consequences for navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Oman and Iran agreed to continue the talks at political and technical-legal levels in order to reach a shared understanding regarding ensuring the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz./Tasnim
