🔻Babak Zanjani, an Iranian businessman and economic activist, said in a press interview about “public opinion pressure” and “different accounts regarding his economic background” that he faces two different viewpoints—those of the people and those of the media.

The journalist from Ensaf News asked Mr. Zanjani whether, given that some consider him an entrepreneur while others believe the law has not dealt with him enough, after resuming his economic activities he feels any pressure from society and public opinion or not.

In response, Babak Zanjani said: “On the one hand we have media narratives, and on the other hand we have the people.”

He referred to his period of detention and said: “In the Islamic Republic of Iran, I am the only person who spent seven whole years in a solitary cell, two by one, in a life.”

Mr. Zanjani also added: “I was the only one who had no debt to any institution or person.” He went on to say that people know him as an “entrepreneur.”

Zanjani’s statements about his financial and judicial record come while his case has been one of the most important economic corruption cases of recent years in Iran.
