👈 According to The Washington Post, the Trump administration is considering the possibility of conducting military attacks in Mali against the JNIM group, which is linked to al-Qaeda.
The proposal has caused disagreement among senior officials in the administration. It is said that Sebastián Gorka, the senior director of the National Security Council for counterterrorism, is one of the strongest supporters of this military action, while some others still oppose it.
A senior U.S. official criticized Russia’s role in the region and said that Moscow is “not recognized as an effective security partner for Mali,” expressing hope that other African countries “will pay attention to Russia’s poor performance in counterterrorism.”
