Based on figures released by Gilan’s Management and Planning Organization, a significant area of the province’s forests has, over the past few years, been turned into a landfill. Experts warn that this trend, in addition to destroying forest cover, also produces large volumes of toxic leachate that pollutes water resources, rivers, and agricultural lands.
