A man in Israel was sentenced to 13 years in prison for espionage for Iran

🔸Israeli media have reported the conviction of a citizen of this country for spying for Iran, sentencing him to 13 and a half years in prison.

🔸On Wednesday, 25 Shahrivar, the Walla (Wynet) website and Israel’s Channel 13 reported that Alexander Granovsky was convicted on charges of “espionage for Iran, sabotage, and arson of property in the late 2024.”

🔸His court charged him, who is in his 30s, with having, “for two weeks, at the direction of intelligence officials in Iran, carried out missions including documenting Israeli energy facilities and broadcasting protest slogans against Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of this country.”

🔸The court said that the punishment imposed on Granovsky was “severe and strict,” but added that it was “proportionate to his actions.”

🔸According to these reports, four Israelis living in Jerusalem were also sentenced to lesser penalties for security-related offenses they committed for an Iranian source.

🔸Israel’s internal security organization had previously announced that in 2024, it arrested 27 of this country’s citizens in 13 cases of espionage for the Islamic Republic of Iran in Israel.

🔸In its statement about its actions in 2024, the organization added that the number of detainees due to spying for Iran was four times higher than in 2023.
