Reuters, citing two European officials and documents it said it had seen, reported that secret training of Russian forces in China, linked to the war in Ukraine, was carried out with approval at a senior level of Russia’s Ministry of Defense. According to the report, at least four Russian and Chinese generals played a role in this cooperation, and part of the courses included training in radiological, chemical and biological warfare at facilities of the Chinese army. China has rejected the allegations as baseless and says it maintains a neutral position in Russia’s war against Ukraine. The European Union, which previously sanctioned Chinese companies supporting Russia’s war machine, is now reviewing the implications of this cooperation for security and trade relations with China.
