قالیباف, with an admission of serious living-condition problems in Iran, threatens the United States with a “heavier response”

🔸 The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said on Sunday, 15 Shahrivar—one day after the United States attack on several Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf—that the era of “proportionate responses” has ended. At the same time, he acknowledged the existence of economic problems in the country.

🔸 Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, in remarks in the open session of parliament, warned: “Any violation of Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, heavier, and more painful response.”

🔸 The statements were made one day after the U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, said that in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ ballistic missile launches targeting two U.S. warships, it had targeted and disabled three Iranian oil tankers near Khark, Jask, and in the Gulf of Oman.

🔸 According to CENTCOM, Iran’s attacks did not cause harm to U.S. forces.

🔸 Brett Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, warned that continued IRGC attacks on American ships would be met with heavier economic costs and the destruction of Iran’s oil tankers.

🔸 Hours later, the IRGC claimed that in the Strait of Hormuz it attacked three oil tankers and three vessels associated with the United States and targeted them.

🔸 The military-security institution also claimed on Sunday that it had targeted an unmanned U.S. military vessel that intended to enter the “protected area of the Strait of Hormuz.”
