One of the strategic targets that was hit in Iran last night was the “Martyr Mirsai” passage.
This site is a tunnel on Highway 71—the key route that connects Bandar Abbas to Tehran directly via Yazd.
This point is known as the “throat,” and the name is entirely fitting.
The region’s geographic constraints are such that, in a corridor more than 100 kilometers wide, there is no practical alternative route (or detour road) for travel between the center of Iran and Bandar Abbas. Any alternative route would require a significant detour, leading to a substantial increase in transportation and fuel costs.
Continued disruption at this point will cause the accumulation and ever-increasing worsening of economic and logistical consequences.
