U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: “The memorandum of understanding failed because Iran was not ready to sign the agreement,” and added: “We’ll see when [Tehran] will be ready to reach an agreement.”

He added: “We will continue to exert pressure and economically choke the Iranian regime; while, as a result of sanctions and delays in paying salaries, pressure on its officials and forces is increasing.”

Bessent said: “What is happening in Iran is only a matter of time and the government is going through the final stages of its process.”
