The U.S. Southern Command (Southcom) said that U.S. forces, in cooperation with the government of Ecuador, stopped a vessel in international waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean that was used as a floating refueling station for drug trafficking operations.
According to Southcom, after boarding and inspecting the vessel, U.S. forces transferred its crew for delivery to Ecuadorian authorities and then sank the vessel.
The command said the information obtained indicated that the vessel was operating in support of the group “Los Choneros.”
