The financial manager of Lloyd’s London, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, said the company has reported losses of 1.4 billion pounds (equivalent to about 1.9 billion US dollars) due to the war in the Middle East.
Jim Bechard says that attacks on ships are only part of this loss, and the more important portion relates to attacks on land facilities, including Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical industries.
Over the past six months, the Islamic Republic has carried out extensive attacks on ships and energy facilities in the region. According to estimates by the International Maritime Organization, during the same period, 77 ships were attacked in the waters of southern Iran, and in addition to material damage and oil spills, 19 crew members were killed.
Lloyd’s London published its financial performance for the first six months of 2026 yesterday, showing that during this period it recorded 3.5 billion pounds in profit before tax, which is 700 million pounds less than the corresponding period of the previous year.
