The European Commission has proposed making new nations’ admittance to the EU phased and reversible, said European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

She said that the proposal was to make the process of obtaining EU membership phased and reversible. It will require two key conditions: progress in reforms and strategic alignment of the country with the European Union.

She said that such a process should be open only to those member states that respect the values of the EU and act in the strategic interests of the European Union.
