🔻Tehran Police says it has identified and detained a person who, yesterday (Monday), threw three Molotov cocktails at people present in Ponak Square.
According to the Information Center of the Command of Tehran’s Greater Police, “Around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, a person from above a building in the Mirza Babaei Boulevard area of Tehran threw three Molotov cocktails at citizens present in Ponak Square and immediately fled the scene.”
In the police statement, it is not clear whether “citizens present in Ponak Square” refers to the nighttime gathering of government supporters in the squares of cities.
Police say the suspect “intended to flee the western borders of the country,” but in an “unexpected operation,” security officers identified him and moved in to arrest him.
According to the police, the person “resisted” and “paid no attention to police warnings,” until, ultimately, with a gunshot to his right leg, he was “contained and arrested.”
No further details have been released.
News of the Molotov cocktail throwing in Ponak had not been previously reported, and the police statement does not mention any physical or property damage.
