Raf Chikoni, head of the Joint Intelligence and Security Committee of Australia’s Parliament, in an exclusive interview with Iran International, called the threat posed to journalists of Persian-language media by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “unacceptable” and emphasized journalists’ right to work freely and without intimidation or violence.

Chikoni said: “It is completely incorrect that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatens journalists simply because they do their jobs.” He added that journalists should be able to report on events inside Iran without interference, harassment, or intimidation.

The Australian senator said that the countries of the world should stand alongside the Iranian people and the Iranian diaspora community and support their efforts to condemn the actions of the Iranian government.

Chikoni also referred to measures including the expulsion of the ambassador and senior diplomats of the Islamic Republic and the imposition of sanctions against hundreds of individuals linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian government in Australia.

He added: “The Iranian people are looking to other countries for support, and I can say that many people in Australia are definitely with them.”
