🔶 Oxfam: Cuts to Germany’s development aid will harm women and girls the most

According to a new analysis by the joint venture and consulting company “Sic Development,” commissioned by Oxfam Germany, cuts to the German government’s budget for development cooperation and humanitarian aid could create a major gap in financing gender equality and will harm women and girls the most.

Accordingly, between 2023 and 2027, a total of up to €1.8 billion may be removed. Oxfam calls on the German government to stop these budget cuts and invest in gender equality.

Based on this report, the budget for projects related to gender equality in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development could be reduced by up to €1.4 billion, reaching a level lower than in 2019. In addition, the budget of Germany’s Foreign Office in this area may also decrease by about €430 million.

Moreover, Germany’s share of funding for international organizations such as the UN agency “UN Women” and the UN Population Fund is also expected to be reduced significantly.
