🔸Ongoing large, uncontained wildfires in southwest France and nearby areas have forced nearly 260,000 people to leave their homes, and the French government has also deployed the army to respond to the blaze.

🔸French officials initially evacuated around 197,000 people from areas surrounding Bordeaux, one of the country’s most important tourist regions—an operation considered among the largest population evacuations in peacetime France. However, about 3,000 people were later allowed to return to their homes.

🔸In Spain as well, about 60,000 people have been evacuated from villages west of Madrid. Pedro Sanchez, Spain’s prime minister, said during a Saturday visit to the affected areas that the government’s priority is “saving lives,” warning that difficult hours lie ahead.
