🔻New York Times: Concern over Patriot stockpile reduction held Trump back from escalating war with Iran
The New York Times, citing U.S. government officials, reported that Donald Trump has set aside, at least for now, a plan to broadly escalate military attacks on Iran.
According to the paper, one of the most important concerns is the reduction in stockpiles of Patriot interceptor missiles and other U.S. air-defense munitions in the Middle East. The American officials said that returning to large-scale military operations could put these stockpiles under severe pressure.
The newspaper further wrote that widening the war in the region, the shifting away of the Gulf’s neighboring Arab allies from Washington, global economic consequences, and the intensification of energy and refugee crises are among the other concerns raised in Trump’s administration.
The decision was made after Trump’s Friday meeting with senior advisers and members of his cabinet. A senior U.S. official also said that last week three American soldiers were killed in Jordan after a ballistic missile passed through the defense systems during an Iranian missile and drone attack.
