🔺More than 60 members of Congress called for action against political executions in Iran
▪More than 60 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, in a letter to the U.S. Secretary of State, expressed deep concern about the “increase in executions of political prisoners by the Iranian government.”
▪The letter described the executions as a “serious violation of fundamental human rights and international legal standards.” The lawmakers wrote that these executions violate Iran’s obligations under international human rights law and “require attention and immediate action.”
▪The letter states that reports by human rights monitors as of Shahrivar 10 indicate more than 900 executions, and their number continues to rise.
▪The lawmakers also pointed to the nationwide internet shutdown in Iran and called for facilitating Iranians’ access to the internet.
