🔸Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, announced that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has temporarily halted attacks on Iran in order to create more opportunity to advance diplomacy.
🔸Waltz said on Sunday in an interview with Fox News: «He is giving negotiations a chance; he has made a bit of room for the talks to move forward.»
🔸Waltz did not provide further details about the nature of these negotiations, but U.S. attacks on Iran were halted after Friday night. After 1 a.m., the Pentagon stopped its bombing operations following escalating attacks, and on Saturday and Sunday there were no reports of Iran carrying out attacks on neighboring countries.
🔸A spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s armed forces also said that, following the halt in U.S. attacks, Iran has also stopped attacks on Washington’s allies in the Middle East.
🔸One senior official of the Trump administration, in response to a question about this pause, told Reuters on Saturday: «The president has always clearly stated that his preferred option is diplomacy, but at the same time he has shown Iran what consequences it would face if it does not seriously come to the negotiating table.»
