Human rights organization Hengaw announced that six women were executed in Iran in August 2026 and at least 20 women activists were detained. The organization also recorded the issuance of a death sentence for one woman, the sentencing of 26 women to prison or flogging, and the occurrence of 19 cases of femicide.

According to Hengaw, all six executed women had been sentenced to death for the charge of intentional murder. Among the detained women as well, at least seven were Baha’i and eight were Kurdish.

Hengaw also reported that Toran(eh) Rehimi was sentenced to death and 11 years in prison, and her sister Romina Rehimi was sentenced to 36 years in prison. Several other women also received prison or flogging sentences.

Based on this report, at least 19 women were killed in Iran in August, and the perpetrators of most of these killings were family members or close relatives of the victims. Hengaw said it identified family disputes as the motive in 16 cases, with Tehran and Mazandaran having the highest number of recorded femicides—four cases each.
