Emmanuel Macron, President of France, asked the European Commission to support a Europe-wide ban on social media networks for children under 15 years old.

Based on a letter he sent to Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, on Shahrivar 7, Macron wrote: “I believe it has now become necessary to go further and, through a new European legal text, coordinate a ban on access by children under 15 to social media platforms so that all children across the Union are protected.”

The request was raised after France’s Constitutional Council overturned a similar national law earlier this summer before it could take effect.
