Canada unveiled a new 20-dollar banknote with an image of King Charles III

Canada unveiled a new 20-dollar banknote on which is printed the image of King Charles III,; the new monarch who, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, has had his image on a Canadian banknote for the first time in more than 70 years.

Tiff Macklem, the head of the central bank, said that the banknote was unveiled on Thursday at a ceremony at the Bank of Canada.

Canada is the first Commonwealth country to print his image on its banknotes outside the United Kingdom since the king took the throne.

One of the unique features of this banknote is its vertical orientation. On its back, an image of the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France can be seen, honoring Canada’s role in World War I.

Commonwealth countries New Zealand and Australia have displayed the king’s image on their coins, although Australia has announced that it will not print his image on banknotes.
