🔶 British Ambassador Summoned in Iran Over "Baseless Allegations" Against the Islamic Republic
According to reports by Iran’s state media, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, June 9 (18 Tir), summoned the British ambassador in Tehran to protest what it called “baseless allegations” regarding the Islamic Republic’s involvement in security activities in the United Kingdom.
The move followed the decision by the UK to summon Iran’s chargé d’affaires in London on Tuesday—a step that came after the conviction and sentencing to prison of two Romanian nationals in 2024 over a stabbing charge involving Pouria Zeraati, a British-Iranian journalist working for Iran International.
Britain said the attack was carried out on behalf of the Iranian government—an assertion that Tehran has denied.
The two Romanian suspects, named Nandito Bădea, 19, and George Stăna, 23, have been detained and are facing trial over the charge of stabbing Pouria Zeraati, a reporter with Iran International. The attack occurred in March 2023 near Zeraati’s residence in the Wimbledon area of London.
