🔸 “An Honorable Family”; Abel and Cain in today’s Iran

🔸 We begin a new season of “Cinema Censorship” with a film whose controversies may have become more prominent than the film’s story itself; “An Honorable Family,” directed by Masoud Bakhshi. The film, made in 2012, and whose first screening took place at the Cannes Film Festival, was accompanied by many reactions and controversies; so much so that in Iran the film never had the opportunity for a general public release. The film offers a bitter depiction of a part of society; a depiction that its opponents called black propaganda and an insult to Iran, while its supporters saw it as a straightforward account of realities that are usually discussed less.
