🔶 Iran’s war; Indian sailors fear returning to the Persian Gulf India is one of the largest suppliers of seafaring labor for global commercial shipping and dispatches hundreds of thousands of sailors to work across the world. Since the start of the war by the United States and Israel against Iran, thousands of Indian sailors have left the Persian Gulf. More than three thousand and six hundred of them have done so with help from India’s Ministry of Shipping. During clashes between the United States and Iran, commercial ships in the Persian Gulf became targets of attacks, and some Indian sailors and seafarers witnessed attacks on their own ships and the killing or wounding of their colleagues. According to Agence France-Presse, many of those who have left the region, despite a temporary agreement to end the war, remain concerned because sporadic violence continues and the Strait of Hormuz and passage through it are still considered one of the critical hotspots of the tension.
